About SRM Chennai
SRM Institute of Science and Technology, formerly known as the SRM University was established in 1985. It has a total of eight campuses, and one such campus is located in Kattankulathur, Chennai. SRM University is approved by the UGC and AICTE. According to the QS World University Rankings 2025, the university is ranked 1001-1200 globally in the 'World University' category. In addition, SRM University Rankings show that it is ranked fourth in the Engineering category by Outlook 2023, fourth in the BBA category by Times 2023, and 14th in the Architecture category by NIRF 2023. It is accredited by NBA, IET Engineering, the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET, and the NAAC with an A++ Grade. SRM University campus is spread over 250+ acres of land comprising 42 blocks and provides education to 50,000+ students. Some prominent on-campus facilities are classrooms, spacious labs, libraries, a knowledge centre, an AC-equipped auditorium, prayer halls, high-speed wi-fi, bookstores, cafeterias, etc.
SRM University courses are offered at graduate, postgraduate, diploma, PG diploma, and doctoral levels. SRM Chennai courses are offered both in full-time and part-time mode at various levels namely undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, PG diploma, and doctoral levels. The university comprises a total of 300+ courses across nine institutes and 111+ departments. SRM University Chennai is comprised of seven schools and 19 departments. SRM College of Medical and Health Sciences comprise 52 departments with 250 MBBS seats and 147 PG and super-speciality seats. SRM Chennai Admission Process 2024
- Candidates must first meet the eligibility criteria set for the course, and apply, appear and qualify for the entrance exam, if any.
- Next, candidates have to register themselves with their email ID and mobile number on the university’s official portal.
- After the registration, candidates need to fill up the SRMIST application form, upload the necessary documents, and pay the SRM University application fees.
- All the necessary details regarding the admission will be communicated to the candidates through their registered email ID and contact details.
- A preliminary screening will be done based on the candidate's application and documents submitted for shortlisting.
- Shortlisted candidates will then attend the e-counselling process, wherein they have to choose their desired programme, get their documents verified and submit the tuition and other requisite fees.
- Lastly, candidates will receive a Provisional Allotment Letter (PAL), which will mark the end of the SRMIST admission process.

SRM University Placements
SRM Chennai placement is handled by a career centre that looks after the overall placement activities from providing training to the placement interview. During the placements of 2024, the highest and average packages offered were Rs 52 LPA and Rs 7.50 LPA, respectively. Additionally, until April 13, 2024, more than 853 companies went to the campus to place graduates, and more than 5,176 organisations made offers to candidates in SRM University placements.
SRM University follows a specific placement process starting with employer registration. In the next step, comes the pre-placement, followed by the test, group discussion and interview. After the candidate clears the round, they need to sit for a technical round and finally the last step i.e., finalisation of the offer.
